How Smart Fit evolved from gym chain to digital health partner for 5M+ members
Who is Smart Fit, and what role do they play in the healthcare or wellness ecosystem?
Smart Fit is Latin America’s largest gym network, focused on making high-quality fitness accessible at scale while increasingly positioning itself as a long-term health and wellbeing partner. By connecting training, digital coaching, and now biomarker insights, Smart Fit sits at the intersection of fitness, preventive health, and everyday wellness for millions of members.
What scale does Smart Fit operate at in terms of users, patients, or markets?
Smart Fit serves more than 5 million members across Latin America through a combination of physical gyms and a high-usage mobile app, giving it one of the largest connected fitness communities in the region and a powerful channel to deliver digital health experiences at scale.
THE PROBLEM
What limitations did Smart Fit face with lab result delivery, data workflows, or digital patient experience?

Before partnering with OpenHealth, Smart Fit members who wanted to track biomarkers had to complete lab tests outside the Smart Fit ecosystem and manage results on their own, usually as static PDFs or paper reports. This fragmented experience made it difficult to connect training habits with objective health data, reduced the perceived value of check-ups, and limited Smart Fit’s ability to build recurring, data-driven services around prevention and long-term wellbeing. Existing tools were not designed to bring lab data into the app journey, nor to present biomarker trends in a way that was intuitive for non-clinical users.
THE SOLUTION
How did OpenHealth’s Health Portal, Lab API, or Digital Reports transform lab data delivery for Smart Fit?

Smart Fit implemented OpenHealth’s Health Portal, embedded directly into the Smart Fit app and combined with a diagnostics partnership with Dasa, Latin America’s largest lab group. Members can now order or upload lab results from partner labs inside the Smart Fit experience and receive harmonised biomarker data presented as interactive, visual reports rather than static PDFs. Lab data flows from Dasa into OpenHealth, is standardised, and then surfaced in the app alongside workouts and training history, giving members a single, mobile-first place to view and understand their health trends over time.
Working together, Smart Fit, OpenHealth, and Dasa designed a workflow that required no new LIS build on the lab side while preserving Smart Fit’s brand and UX on the front end. OpenHealth handled data harmonisation, security, and infrastructure, allowing Smart Fit’s product and engineering teams to focus on integration and member experience rather than rebuilding lab connectivity from scratch.
THE IMPACT
What measurable improvements did Smart Fit achieve after implementing OpenHealth’s digital health infrastructure?
By bringing lab data into the Smart Fit app, the company increased in-app user activation and ongoing engagement as members returned to track biomarker trends next to their workout history. New revenue streams emerged from biomarker-based check-ups and related services, creating additional value per member without requiring Smart Fit to build its own lab infrastructure. At the same time, the integrated health journey strengthened Smart Fit’s competitive position, making it harder for traditional gyms or purely digital fitness apps to match the combination of physical training, preventive testing, and longitudinal health insights delivered through a single, branded experience.
